Holotropic Breathwork
What is Holotropic Breathwork?
Holotropic breathwork (HB) is a group method of self-exploration and psychotherapy that incorporates experiential elements such as breathwork, music, bodywork, art, and talking. HB is promoted to induce deep states of altered consciousness and release blocked energy and emotions. Holotropic breathing involves deep accelerated breathing and encourages combining inhalation and exhalation into a cycle of continuous breath.
Holotropic breathwork was developed by psychiatrist Stanislov Grof in the 1970s as a drug-free way to induce a non-ordinary state of consciousness. The word holotropic was coined by Grof and inspired by the Greek words “holos” (whole) and “trepein”.
Did you know? By deliberately increasing the pace of breathing during holotropic breathwork, it’s suggested that regular psychological defenses are eased, leading to the release of unconscious material that may have been suppressed.
Is Holotropic Breathwork Right For You?
Hypnotic Power’s breathwork sessions aren’t limited to one technique. Breathwork leaves you with a higher feeling of self awareness and bliss. Additionally breathwork works to clear your mind and open the heart. These states can be beneficial on there own and can also assist in more effective Hypnotherapy sessions.
What To Expect
To start the session, I suggest a few forms of breath as I think it is important to use whatever form of breath at that moment feels right. If you stay with the breath and don’t stop it doesn’t matter what one you use at the time. During the breath session you may want to slow down and breath differently, starting with one breath technique and following my guidance then moving into another is awesome. There is no right or wrong way to do breathe. I suggest you listen to your body, all though it’s important to push yourself through the uncomfortableness its also important to pay attention to what breathe feels best at the moment.
Holotropic breathing involves lying down, relaxing, and breathing as rapidly and as deeply as possible. Once this breathing rhythm has been established, participants may eventually fall into a slightly different breathing rhythm variation that feels most right to them. Once the breathing rhythm has been established, intense evocative music is played in combination with fast breathing to induce a state of trance that allows for different levels of the unconscious to be reached. The session may begin with emotionally uplifting music and move to more intense rhythmic music later as you move through five different stages of music styles. Then energies can come out of your body release into the universe. This process allows you to let go of things that are no longer serving you such as stale unwanted energy that you no longer need. This process can feel hard, uncomfortable and you may want to quit. BUT the key is to move through the uncomfortableness and that’s where the hard work pays off. Your body will feel tingly, and you will want to move in whatever way feels best to release the energy, this can be through shaking your limbs or dancing or whatever you feel. At this moment you are being fully guided by your body. I will be there guiding and holding space for you the whole time. Helping you get through the work. After we will slowly come back to reality with a clear mind, open heart and you will leave feeling more aligned and balanced.
